Plymouth Sailor, 100, finally receives war medals

Last updated: 16 Jan 2012

A 100-year-old man from Plymouth has been awarded medals for his service during World War II more than 65 years after he could have received them, thanks to Plymouth Age Concern. Mr George served in the Merchant Navy  but was injured in 1943. He spent the rest of the war training cadets, but said he did not apply for his four medals because he believed others were more deserving. He said he was now "very pleased" with the medals. You can read more of the story on the thisiddevon website and the bbcwebsite.
