DiscoverMe, I am your next employee.

Last updated: 14 Feb 2012

Plymouth Age Concern has launched it's “DiscoverME, I am your next employee” programme to aid unemployed people who are fifty or over. The programme is aimed at motivating, inspiring and building confidence in people as they move closer to or into work.

The DiscoverME programme offers the opportunity to learn more about yourself. During the programme candidates will also prepare a CV that they are proud of, try something new, gain a certificate in emergency first aid, try out volunteering, attain a reference and improve their IT skills.

If you are 50 or over and claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance then you are eligible to join this FREE 10 week programme.

Nigel Backhouse from Plymouth Age Concern said “We already run a free weekly work club and have come to understand the hurdles that people have faced in returning to work. This is why we are very excited to now offer a 10 week programme that focusses on overcoming these hurdles. We want people to be able to go to their next interview with the confidence that they will be that organisation's next employee.”

Working in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, St. Luke's, Groundwork, The Red Cross and Plymouth Adult Learning, Plymouth Age Concern is able to facilitate two identical programmes. The first commences on Friday 27th January 2012 in the morning and the second commences on Tuesday 31st January 2012 in the afternoon. Both programmes are being held at the William Venton Centre in Plymstock.

Plymouth Age Concern will continue to run its successful Work Club for people over 50 looking for work. This FREE Work Club meets every Wednesday and provides various talks and interactive sessions from local employers, employment agencies and other organisations.
