Barbican Roadworks Will Not Destroy Fairyland
Plymouth Age Concern's annual 'Skilled Hands Exhibition' (whose theme this year is fairyland) will not be disrupted by the Barbican roadworks, the exhibition organisers have said. This will be the 59th year the exhibition has been organised by the independent, local charity and support has always been good. While the disruptions has meant making a slight detour to avoid the chaos, there is still much excitement about the exhibition.
The Skilled Hands Exhibition, which was held at Plymouth's Guild Hall for many years, moved to Plymouth Age Concern's own Barbican-based Elspeth Sitters House (Hoegate Street) last year as a cost-effective way of extending their opening hours. The Exhibition will run from the 15th to the 18th of June and organisers say that the extended hours, to include the Saturday will enable more people to visit as demand has always been high.
“We have been very well supported in the past by local residents.” Said Mrs Chris Newham who has been managing the event for the last 10 years “The centre is a very fitting setting with great access and it would be a shame to let the roadworks disrupt attendance.”
Plymouth Age Concern hope that people are not deterred from attending the exhibition (which only costs £1 entry) and would suggest that they approach from the direction of the Theatre in order to avoid the road works.
